The Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast (Snapper Rocks, Coolangatta, Queensland, Australia - just above the border to New South Wales) is the first World Tour event of the season for The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP). It ran from 26 February to 9 March 2011. With 34 men in the Quiksilver event and 17 women in the Roxy competion, there is around half a million dollars in prize money. Kelly Slater (USA) (ten-time world champion) won the event with Taj Burrow (AUS) (ranked 3rd in the world) coming second. Snapper Rocks has many excellent vantage points for people to see the surfers in action. The waves in this area are excellent because they are very clean on flat beaches/points that approach at a wide angle from the coast line producing long breaking waves for a long surf time. There are many high quality hotels available including the famous Outrigger Twin Towns Resort and Greenmount Beach Resort.
